Obituary of Andrew Jackson"Jack" Long
Mr. Andrew Jackson “Jack” Long, age 84, of Jackson, GA, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017. Jack was born in Monticello, GA son of the late Ruby Goodman Long. Jack was also preceded in death by his brothers and their wives, C.D. Long and Barbara, Alton Long and Joan; sisters, Frances Long Cook and Patricia A. Long; brother-in-law, Charles P. McCarter; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Gwendolyn Dial.
Jack was a faithful member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church. He was also very active in the Masons, having been a member of Ancient York Lodge #127 F.&A.M., Walton Lodge #200 F.&A.M., Grand Council of Georgia Royal Arch Masons Graydon W. Kitchens Council No. 18, Grand Chapter of Georgia Y.A. Wright No. 122. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955 in Germany. Jack retired in 1992 after 30 years with Liberty National Life Insurance. He was a huge Dawgs fan and loved playing golf.
Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Earl Long; brother and his wife, J. MacArthur Long and Nan of Athens, GA; sister-in-law, Elsie McCarter of Locust Grove, GA; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Jack Long will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Douglas Gilreath and Reverend Joe Peabody officiating. Interment will be in the Locust Grove City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening. Ancient York Lodge #127 F.&A.M. will conduct the Masonic Rites. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, P.O.
