Mr. John Charles “Charlie” Thaxton, age 77, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at his home.

 

Charlie was born on Saturday, November 22, 1947, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late John Franklin Thaxton and Julie Carolyn Carr Thaxton. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his life partner, Nancy James.  Charlie was a veteran of the United States Marines and served during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart medal.  He was a proud Veteran. He loved playing guitar as well as playing cards with his buddies.

 

Charlie is survived by his children, Paige Thaxton, Dawn Clayton (Paul), Clint Thaxton; grandchildren, Meagan Wise, Will McCord, Rebekah Simpson, Andrea McCord, Zack Chapman, and Vince Thaxton; great-grandchildren, Sophie Wise, Luke Wise, and Winnie Wise; special friends, Mony Heath, Angel Heath, Christian Heath as well as many extended family members and friends.

 

A memorial service for Mr. Charlie Thaxton will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday August 30, 2025, in the Chapel of Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home with Mr. Rudy Mangham officiating. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service.
