Obituary of Frances Lorene Barnes

Mrs. Frances Lorene Copeland Barnes, age 85, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Frances was born on Monday, April 15, 1940, in Locust Grove, Georgia to the late Lemmie Henry Copeland and the late Pauline Copeland Puckett. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Barnes; brothers, Henry Harrison Copeland, Lemmie Henry Copeland, Jr., Roy Copeland, and David Copeland. Reading, cooking, and baking were some of the things Frances enjoyed. She loved to eat. Frances worked at Fashion Pillows, Avondale Mill, Value Mart, and Red & White Grocery Store. She and her husband, Jimmy, volunteered at the Salvation Army in Jackson, Georgia for 20 years. She will be dearly missed.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hammond of Griffin, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Melissa Copeland of Thomaston, Georgia; granddaughter, Michelle Cook and David of Jackson, Georgia; grandson, Timmy Copeland of Thomaston, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service for Mrs. Frances Barnes will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Sherrell Memorial Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Rudy Mangham officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service at Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home.
