Mr. William J. Harrison, age 96, of Washington, D.C. passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Westbury Medical Care Home in Jackson, Georgia. Mr. Harrison was born on July 30, 1917 in New York, New York to the late William Harrison and the late Mary Deary Harrison. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lt. Thomas Harrison; a sister, Julia Whitehouse; and a great nephew, Christopher Whitehouse. Mr. Harrison retired from the United States Weather Bureau. He enjoyed his pet Canaries and reading. Mr. Harrison is survived by his niece, Alice Larson of Staten Island, New York; nephews, Peter Whitehouse of Staten Island, New York, Thomas Whitehouse of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Edward Whitehouse of Jackson, Georgia; numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison was known for his endearing personality and his kind and gentle manner. His nephew Edward said: “Uncle Bill was loved by everyone who met him; both friends he has known for decades and people he met for the first time in the last months of his life.” A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York. In lieu of flowers, please place a memorial contribution to the Christopher Whitehouse Foundation, 201 Todt Hill Road, Staten Island, New York 10314 in memory of Mr. William J. Harrison.
