Obituary of H. C. Bates

Mr. Butch Bates, of Monticello, GA, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at his residence. He was born July 15, 1950 in Atlanta, GA to the late James Bates and Christine Adkins. He was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church and was employed by American Mills for 30 Yrs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, collecting arrow heads, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Butch is survived by his wife of 37 yrs, Laura Thistlewood Bates, of Monticello; brothers, Melvin Bates and Gary Barner; nieces, Melinda Prince, Lisa Bates, Missy Armstrong, Selina Williams; nephew, Mike Bates; aunt, cousins; and his dogs, Brutus, Tiny, and Debbie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Bates, and sister, Betty Crumely. A memorial service will be held at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Jasper County at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 with Brother Charles Roper officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM Wednesday at the church.
