Obituary of R. Tarpley George

Please share a memory of R. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Tarpley (Tarp) George, of Jackson, GA, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 1, 1959 in Atlanta, GA to Deanna Wilson George and the late Joe George. Tarp grew up in Marietta, GA and graduated from Wheeler High School. He attended Valdosta State College. Tarp built a successful career as an upscale home remodeler until medical issues in the last five years prevented active participation in his chosen occupation. He was known in all circles for his free spirit and attention to others. Tarp had several loves in his life, the first two of which were his family and water skiing. Later in life, he kept to the water theme with an active interest in white water kayaking. Tarp persevered and overcame all of the setbacks until the medical issues in the last few years brought him to his knees. He just could not beat the bouts with heart disease and cancer that were his greatest and last challenges. His life ended too soon. He just went to sleep and passed peacefully at home in the night. In addition to his mother, Tarp is survived by his daughter, Casey George, and son, Carter George, both of Chamblee; Uncle Gary White, of Covington; Aunt Ruth Theiling, of Walhalla, SC; several cousins; and companion, Dianne Gresham, of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Stacey George. Services for Tarp George will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Chapel of Sherrell Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Brock officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 9th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Those who wish may sign the on-line guest registry at www.sherrellfh.com. Sherrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Robert Tarpley (Tarp) George.
