Obituary of William Eugene "Gene" Smith

Mr. William Eugene “Gene” Smith, age 89, of Monticello, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. Gene was born on Tuesday, June 14, 1932, in Cork, Georgia to the late William Jackson Smith and Berta Mae Speir Smith. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Smith, granddaughter, Kerri Leann Mincy; 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He was a member of Flovilla Baptist Church. Gene retired from Hercules after 35 years and later worked at Piggly Wiggly part-time. He enjoyed his wordsearches and singing hymns. Gene looked forward to eating breakfast at Ingles with his friends every morning. He was always willing to give a helping hand and sharing with those around him. Gene was a people person, he enjoyed spending time with his family at reunions and getting his picture taken with those he loved. Gene is survived by his daughters, Nancy Jo Biles, Linda Carol Ray, and Kathy Jean Mincy; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Martin; brothers, Wayne Smith and Alfred Smith. Funeral services for Mr. William Eugene “Gene” Smith will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at Sherell Memorial Chapel with Mr. Randall Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
