Obituary of Margaret Rooks Sherrell
Mrs. Margaret Rooks Sherrell, age 90, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
Margaret was born on Saturday, March 5, 1932, in Jackson, Georgia to the late Lonnie Bryant Rawls and the late Emma Joe Caston Rawls. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jessie Earl Rooks, John A. Sherrell; grandson, Matt Cardell; great-grandchildren, Carolyn Reinhardt, Katie Rooks; sister, Winona Cook; and brother, Dewitt Rawls. Margaret was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, McIntosh Chapter of the DAR, and Gideons Auxiliary International. She was also co-owner of Sherrell, Wilson, Mangham Funeral Home. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, flowers, shopping, traveling, and especially spending time with her family.
Margaret is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Ann Rooks, Dennis Rooks, all of Jackson; daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Richardson of Jackson, Becky and Eddie Cardell of McDonough; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary McCrackin of Jackson; sister-in-law, Betty Rawls of Mt Pleasant, SC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service for Mrs. Margaret Sherrell will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Jackson at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Keith Joseph and Dr. Benny Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson City Cemetery with Reverend Eric Clemmons officiating. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and will lie in state for one hour before the service.
