Obituary of Pearl Opal "Tootie" Matejowsky
Pearl Opal “Tootie” Matejowsky was a Christian beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during her incredible 90 years of life. Born on December 29, 1932, in Eunice Louisiana, the fifth of six children to Melvin and Iolet Hoover.
She was the quintessential grandmother. Pearl showed her love through cooking, sewing, baking and preserving food. A table overflowing with food for each and every one of her four kids, eight grandkids, and nineteen great grandchildren. She was feisty, opinionated, and took charge. You’d never go hungry in her home, and oh, how she loved rocking her babies on the front porch.
Mrs. Matejowsky is preceded in death by her Husband William “Bill” Matejowsky; parents (fore mentioned); siblings, Violet Doran, Melvin Jr Hoover, Joe Hoover, Clara Vaughn, Irene Lyles; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn King and great grandson, William Lee Pearson.
In a flash I’m back at our dinner table. Pawpaw coming in, dirty from a long, hard day at work. The smell of fried food, baked cakes, summer rain, and fresh cut grass. The loud sound of everyone talking, dogs barking, kids laughing and Nanny telling everyone to “Come eat!” Those were the days of full bellies and hearts filled with love.
