Obituary of Scherry Jo Whitaker

Mrs. Scherry Jo Pope Whitaker, age 61, of Forsyth, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Scherry was born Wednesday, May 16, 1962, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Bobby and Shirley Pope. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Pope, and nephew, Jason Pettus. She was a former member of Liberty Baptist Church. Scherry enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with her grandchildren.

Scherry is survived by her husband of 17 years, Tony Whitaker; children, Amanda and Troy Carroll, Gary and Brandia Shelton, Brian and Faith Shelton; grandchildren, Bradley Johnson, Mia Carroll, Keegan Shelton, AJ Shelton, Malaya Brand, Malachi Cook, Chase Carroll, Nate Shelton, Eli Carroll, Liam Carroll, Jase Shelton, Maverick Shelton, Briella Shelton; brother, Bobby Pope; sister, Deborah Finch; sister and brother-in-law, Venitha and Kent Pettus; cat, Ellie Mae, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Scherry Whitaker will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Caroll officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
