Obituary of Alvin Hugh Merkl

Mr. Alvin Hugh “Merk” Merkl, age 93, of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, following an illness.

 

Merk was born Friday, March 27, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Frank Morris Merkl and the late Emma Kay Merkl. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Hicks Merkl; and brother-in-law, Harry Kinchen, II. Merk served in the United States Army and was in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech with an industrial engineering degree and an MBA from Georgia State. After graduating Merk worked for Bell South / AT&T for 45 years. He was a dedicated little league coach for football and baseball for 20 years and enjoyed traveling, he even left a tooth in China. Merk was a huge Georgia Tech fan. His passion was his family, and he loved spending time with them.

 

Merk is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Wayne Price, Judy and Steve Jaggears; sons and daughter-in-law, Brad and Heather Merkl, Ken Merkl; grandchildren, Jay Price, Emma and Lane Ferrell, Chris Price, Anna and Joseph Hart, Banks Merkl, Jackson Merkl, Amelia Grace Merkl; great-grandchildren, Tucker Ferrell, Sam Ferrell, John David Ferrell, Jack Ferrell; sister-in-law, Martrelle Kinchen.

 

A graveside service for Mr. Alvin “Merk” Merkl will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Cedar Rock Cemetery at 3:00 P.M.
