Claire Brown died peacefully at her home on Jackson Lake at the age of 88 on November 25, 2014. She was born Edna Claire Guest, youngest daughter of Mack and Mamie Guest of Concord, Georgia on February 22, 1926. After graduating from high school Claire attended college in Bowling Green, KY. After college she returned to Concord. It was during this time period at a USO dance in Americas, Georgia that she met the love of her life, Albert L. Brown, Sr., who was serving in the United States Air Force. They married on July 13, 1945 in Sumter County, GA and thus began Claire’s adventurous life. After Al’s discharge from the Air Force, Claire and Al’s adventure began. They first moved to Buena Vista, GA and from there to San Juan, Puerto Rico; East Rockaway, NY; Matamoras, PA; Port of Spain, Trinidad; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Ibadan, Nigeria and finally Jackson Lake, GA. Claire was living in Nigeria when her sister contacted her about a lake home that was for sale. The home was located across the cove from her sister’s lake house. Claire and Al purchased the home sight unseen. Throughout her life Claire enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking but especially being with her family and friends. Her seamstress skills were demonstrated in family pictures, where on one Easter she wore a particular dress and the next Easter there was a picture her daughter was wearing a dress of the same print and the following Easter a son was sporting a pair of shorts of the same material. Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Al, and her oldest son, Dennis. Claire is survived by daughter-in-law, Sandra, of San Antonio, TX, daughter, Teresa and husband, Dick Domurat of Perdido Key, FL; son, Albert, Jr., and wife Margaret of McDonough and Jackson Lake, GA; son, David and wife Jill of Canton, GA; daughter Melodie and husband, Scott Thurston of Stockbridge, GA; and daughter Holland of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In her honor, her family will attend services at Claire’s church, Stark Methodist Church, on the Sunday after Christmas, after which a private family remembrance gathering will be held at Claire’s lake house. Memorial contributions in Claire’s memory may be made to the Start Methodist Church, 1097 Halls Bridge Road, Jackson, GA 30232 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
