Thomas Luther Grant (Tommy), age 72, of Jackson, Georgia passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Tommy was born on March 8, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late James Luther Grant and the late Norma Pauline (Pittman) Grant. He attended school in Forest Park, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the U. S. Navy from October 10, 1960 to March 16, 1964. He was a runner in many marathons. In 1996 he ran the Olympic Flag in Butts County. He also ran the Olympic Torch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida representing Delta Air Lines. He retired from Delta Air Lines in 2002 with 38 years of service. He is a member of the St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 45 in Jackson, York Rite, and American Legion Post 102. He enjoyed so much in life, but a few favorite things was gardening and walking on the beach. Important, however, was time with family and friends, and most important of all, GOD. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Joyce (Bryan) Grant; two sons, Thomas Wade Grant and Thomas Glenn Grant; four grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor (twins), Morgan, and William; two brothers and their spouses, Ronnie and Mary Lynn, Michael and Sherrie; brother and sister-in-laws, Kerry, Nancy, and Betty; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home, 212 E. College Street, Jackson, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Morrow Cemetery in Morrow, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on April 7, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in honor of Tommy to the St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 45, P.O. Box 1030, Jackson, GA 30233. It is not a religious organization, but a Christian brotherhood that does many good things such as a Georgia Masonic Children’s Home, Scottish Rite Georgia Speech Therapy, and Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. The lodge also sponsors the Rainbow Girls, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the CHIP Program for missing children.
