Mr. Amalio Rodriguez, age 88, of Jackson, GA, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital.
Mr. Rodriguez was born on Saturday, March 3, 1928 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to the late Amalio Rodriguez and the late Elena Sotomajor Rodriguez. Amalio was preceded in death by his nine brothers and sisters. Amalio proudly served in the United States Army for 22 years, having fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He participated in the Battle of Ia Drang while in Vietnam, where he was on the second helicopter to land. Recently, Amalio’s unit in Korea was given a special commendation; Congressional Gold Medal, by the President for their participation in Korea. Amalio retired from the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center. He was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God in Jackson.
Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his wife of 55 years, Renate Rodriguez; children, Andree Rodriguez and his fiancé, Susan, Danny and Susie Rodriguez, Arturo and Norma Rodriguez, Amalio, Jr. and Yvette Rodriguez, Rene Rodriguez; grandchildren, Jessica, Lisa, Arturo, Jr., Amalio, Jr., Rene, Kiko, Joshua, Joseph, Garrett, Joshua and Jessica; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, John Brayden, Zoe, and David, along with numerous others; special nephew, Frank Offeney along with other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Amalio Rodriguez will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in the Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Moncrief officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson City Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
