Obituary of Elizabeth O'Neal

Elizabeth O’Neal, age 97, of Jackson, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at her residence. Elizabeth was born on Tuesday, March 9, 1920 at the home of her parents, the late Mr. Jessie Kyle Sitton and the late Mrs. Fannie Myrt Biles Sitton at Jackson Lake near the Lloyd Shoals Dam where her father was superintendent for 35 years until his retirement.
She attended school in Jackson graduating with the class of 1936. In 1940 she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville. Mrs. O’Neal was a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church and the William McIntosh Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a World War II bride. In February of 1942 she married Harold Barnes who was stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. He soon went overseas and was gone three years until the end of the War in Europe. They were blessed with a daughter, Beth, and a son, Hal. Harold died when the children were young. She married Lee Roy O’Neal in 1957, and they had 32 years together. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Hal Barnes, and brother, Kyle Sitton, Jr.
Mrs. O’Neal is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth Barnes Selby and Edward B. Selby, Jr. of Naples, FL; step-granddaughters, Ashley Adams of Miami, FL and Courtenay Fisher of Connecticut; a special family, Roger and Michelle McDaniel, Adam and Brittani McDaniel and sons, Gibson, Grant, Garrett; Joshua and Lauren McDaniel and son, Tucker; cousin, Anne Coleman of Alpharetta.
A memorial service for Mrs. Elizabeth O’Neal will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Mr. Roger McDaniel and Mr. Michael Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. O’Neal requested those desiring make contributions to the Jackson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1880, Jackson, GA 30233 or the William McIntosh Chapter of DAR, P.O.
