Mr. John M. Carter, Sr., age 83, of Jackson, GA, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Sacred Journey Hospice. He was born on August 13, 1927 in Cordele, GA to Millard F. and Odessa Poole Carter. He was a member of Towaliga Baptist Church where he was a member of the church Brotherhood and served as a Deacon. He had a long and successful career with both Allied Chemical and Vinings Chemical and retired in 1995. After retirment, he enjoyed reading and working in his yard. He served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. John Carter, Sr. is survived by his wife, Hilda M. Carter, of Jackson, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Chuck Janes, of Tallahassee, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Marshall and Susan Carter, of Woodstock, GA; grandchildren, Heidi Lindsey, of Quitman, MS, Wade Workmaster, Mackenzie Janes, Charles Janes, and Rachel Stewart, all of Tallahassee, FL, Baylee Carter, of Woodstock, GA; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Shelbie, Scarlett, and Seth Lindsey, all of Quitman, MS; several beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Millard F. Carter, Sr.; mother, Odessa Carter; brothers M.F. Carter, Jr. and Harold Carter; sister, Thelma Chandler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Towaliga Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Sanders officiating. Interment will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Those who wish may sign the on-line guest registry at www.sherrellfh.com.
