Obituary of Joseph H. Hunter
Rev. Joseph H. Hunter, better known as “Chaplain Joe”, age 70, of Jackson, GA passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. He was born Friday, September 26, 1947, in Appling County, Georgia, to the late Charles F. Hunter and the late Susie Kersey Hunter. Chaplain Joe was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was the founder of Truckstop Ministries Inc. Chaplain Joe was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a mentor to many people in his ministry and enjoyed spending time fishing with his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Janice T. Hunter of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Trina Hunter of Stockbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Hunter Lansford and Graham Lansford of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Tyler and Jessica Downs, Travis Downs, Kaylee Hunter, Josie Hunter, Gabriella Harnage, Aliyah Harnage, Bradley Hunter, Julianna Harnage, Sarah Harnage; great-grandson, Tate David Downs; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Peggy Hunter; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Maggie Elaine Hunter.
The funeral service for Chaplain Joe Hunter will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2018 Macedonia Baptist Church,155 Macedonia Church Rd, Jackson, GA 30233, with Reverend Milton Thomas, Reverend Jeff Thomas and Dr. Bob Whitmire officiating. Interment will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Georgia Veterans Memorial with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Truckstop Ministries Inc., P.O.
