Joe was one of the people I mostly knew during my formative childhood years until I was 10 or so living on Watkins Street in Jackson. He taught me just about every curse word I could possibly have learned at such a young age, and when I used them at school I'd always say "But Joe always says it!" as my excuse. Lol. He was a good friend and neighbor then and I will miss him. As many commenters have said, Joe was one of a kind. He was a very special person. I know that April, his children, Herman, Nancy and Rivers will need support during this terrible ordeal. I know that we weren't close for a very long time, but if I can be of service to any of you, please just ask. Unlike so many who offer help during times such as these, I truly mean it.

Joe was just Joe. Never a dull moment. I knew Joe before we even started school to graduation Class of 91. I am truly going to miss the jokes and just everything about him. Joe you will always be the life of the party.

Joe, it is hard to believe you are gone. We had just talked. I miss you terribly. My heart is broken. You were wonderful, warm, caring, forgiving, and giving. You carried a load on your shoulder and you did it with pride and strength. Your concern of others was great. A need to make people laugh was your gift. Your song (make your blue eyes black) was corny but I would laugh. When you were around I felt safe and in control. A great friend when I needed a listening ear. Many times I would have a bad day and you always knew and would call me to tell me something funny. Or a simple text would come through. You were never judging always supporting. It is hard every day. Joe you were one in a million and I am so lucky to have known you. I know I will see you soon Tanker Tom. My love for you will never fade. Celeste

Dear Waits family,
I have walked the path you are just embarking on twice. I know the questions that will never have satisfactory answers. April if you find that you or your children need an understanding ear, the twins can always get you my number. The church I Pastor and myself are praying for you guys during what seems to be insurmountable grief. Better days are ahead, I promise. Your in Christ, Victor Edmonds

I can't believe you're gone buddy. The one person that I thought would always be here to help me sort out the Peters / Waits Family. You were my brother from another Mother from the beginning. I'm gonna get a pair of those short a$$ fire proof britches just so I can be a real truck driver like you. Hold me a seat and I'll take care of this till I get there
