Obituary of James Bell Thurston

Mr. James Bell Thurston, age 88, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, to be with our Lord.

 

James was born Sunday, March 15, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Julian and May Kimbell Thurston. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Dixon; and son, James B. Thurston, Jr. He was a member of Gateway Community Church in Covington, Georgia. James was a Gideon, a former Rockdale County school board member, a church treasurer, and owner of Conyers Sewing Center. When he was younger, James was an avid golfer and enjoyed deer hunting.

 

James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Weston Thurston; children, Dayna Gunter, John and Lorrie Thurston, Dinnie Meeker (Kevin), Darol Musk (Danny), Jim Gottschalk; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Thurston; sister, Marian Bryson, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral services for Mr. James Thurston will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Sherrell Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Jackson City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
