Mr. James Clay Saunders, age 82, of Griffin, GA passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin. Clay was born on Tuesday, October 15, 1935 in Macon, GA to the late William J. “W.J.” Saunders and the late Corrie Elizabeth Foster Saunders. He was a member of Rock Springs Church and read his Bible every day. Clay was a wheeler-dealer. He had several miscellaneous jobs but was a retired Atlanta Fireman. Clay loved to travel and visit. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Marchman Saunders. Clay is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cheryl Wiley Saunders; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and John Payne, Jenny and Bob Thompson; grandchildren, Free Webb and Amye, Trenton Webb and Lucy, Heather Brooker and Robbie; great-grandchildren, Sophia Brooker, Reagan Webb, McKinley Webb, Noah Faillo, Mason Faillo; brother, William Troy Saunders and Donna; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Clay Saunders will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Rock Springs with Dr. Benny Tate, Reverend Stan Daniel, and Reverend Taylor McKneely officiating. Interment will follow in Jenkinsburg City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
